Task Certification Module: Burners

This Task Certification Module is designed to evaluate your understanding on Furnace Burners. These questions pertain to the burners used on the Furnaces in Department 480.

PROCEDURE:
  1. The pilot has a lazy orange flame. What are the possible causes?
    Incoming air pressure at (2) is only 16" w.c.
    Gas regulator (5) wide open.
    Air Regulator at (4) is set for 18" w.c.
    Pilot Mixer is dirty.

  2. How would you define the pilot burner?
    Standing.
    Intermittent.
    Interrupted.
    Continuous.

  3. The burner system has been shut down for testing. The "Supervising Cock" has been closed and the "Test Cock" has been fitted with a hose and the other end of the hose is immersed exactly 4" under water. What do you expect to see?
    No bubbles in 5 minutes.
    Several bubbles per minute.
    A couple of bubble per minute.
    Some bubbles at first and then no bubbles.

  4. The firing mode for the Carburizer Furnace burners is?
    High-Low.
    On-Off.
    On-Off Time Proportioning.

  5. When is there ignition to the Carburizer Furnace burners?
    As soon as there is a call for heat.
    At High-Fire.
    At Low-Fire.
    Once the air valve has opened a little.
