Task Certification Module: Furnace Safety

This Task Certification Module is designed to evaluate your understanding of Furnace Safety.

QUESTIONS:
  1. Which statement about the Atmosphere Effluent Stack Pilots is FALSE?
Should always be burning with a sharp blue flame.
OK to be burning with any type of flame.
Only need to be burning when Endo is in the Furnace.

  2. What will happen if the Effluent Stack Pilots are not burning and the Exhaust System fails?
The furnace will automatically shut down.
Combustible Effluent gasses will continue to be removed safely.
The Effluent gasses are not combustible. They have been burned in the furnace and there is no reason to worry.
Combustible Stack gasses will enter the exhaust ventilation ductwork and present an explosion hazard.

  3. Why is it important to have pilots burning at the Outer and Peep Doors any time there is atmosphere in the furnace?
The pilots remind personnel there is atmosphere in the furnace.
The pilots ignite atmosphere gasses whenever the Outer or Peep Doors are open.
The pilots interlock the doors so they can't be opened if the pilot is out.
The pilots ignite atmosphere gasses that normally leak out when the doors are closed.

  4. What why is it critically important to not stand in front of an access door when it is being opened?
The door is hot and someone could get burned.
Flames could shoot out of the opening for several feet depending on the furnace pressure.
The door could strike someone standing in its path.
    Its not a problem.

  5. What type of warning occurs alerting people in the immediate area that one of the Outer Doors is about to open?
    There is no warning.
