How to Correct Burn Marks

Burn Marks on the Ground Surface of a Part occur when the Part is too soft or when too much heat is generated against the Part by the Grinding Wheel. When Burn Marks are observed on a Part it must be scrapped.

PROBABLE CAUSE:
1.
The Grinding Wheel is dull.
2.
The Diamond Dresser is blunt or damaged and is therefore not dressing the Grinding Wheel correctly.
3.
Coolant level is too low.
4.
Coolant is contaminated.
5.
Table Slide Speed is too high for the Grinding Wheel currently in use.
6.
The Part count between dressings is too low.
7.
The Grinding Wheel is too hard.
8.
The Grinding Wheel is too fine.
9.
Dressing Speed is to low.
10.
Part was not heat treated correctly.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
1.
Dress the Grinding Wheel.

Replace the Diamond Dresser.

Check the coolant level.
4.
Replace the Coolant Unit Filter Paper.
5.
Change the Table slide speed . This is a protected program field that requires you to contact USACH.
6.
Make sure the part count between dressings is set between 8 and 12.

Replace the Grinding Wheel with a softer one.

Replace the Grinding Wheel with a more course one.

9.
Make sure the Grinding Wheel Dress Speed (variable 505) is set according to Grinder 500 Variables Table.
10.
Notify your supervisor that the parts entering the Grinder are not heat treated correctly.
