How to Correct Step Marks

Step Marks on the Ground Surface of a finished part will appear as high spots or shoulders. This occurs when there are large gouges or chipped off edges on the Grinding Wheel. When Step Marks are observed on a part it must be scrapped.

When Step Marks are noticed the Grinder must be stopped and the condition reported to your supervisor immediately.

PROBABLE CAUSE:
1.
The Grinding Wheel is damaged. There are large gouges or chipped off (stepped) edges on the Grinding Wheel.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
1.
Dress the Grinding Wheel until the step(s) and gouge(s) are removed.
