This procedure is used to set up the Blank Sorter on the Schuler MRH-150 Minting
Press when changing over to a new denomination (i.e. dimes to quarters).
PROCEDURE:
Turn the black knob on the air
regulator counterclockwise to shut off the air supply to the Blank Sorting
Device. With the air off, you can move the Diameter Control Gates back and
forth.
Turn the black knob on the air
regulator clockwise to turn on the air supply to the Blank Sorting Device.
Set the air pressure to 2.5 -3.0 bar. If the Blank Sorting Device does not
work properly at this setting, clean the slide rails that the gate moves back
and forth on.
Open the Blank
Sorting Device cover and loosen the blue
nut located on top of the Stop Cylinder. This loosens the swivel fitting and allows
the air line to move freely.
Then, loosen the cylinder
jam nut located at the bottom of the Stop Cylinder.
Turn the Stop
Cylinder body clockwise or counterclockwise to raise or lower the cylinder
(depending on the thickness of the blank you are changing over to).
To set the height, place a blank
and a 0.30 mm feeler gage under the hold-down piece. The Stop Cylinder
Block is tapered so that only the front part of the block actually contacts
the blank. This is necessary due to the high speed of the press.
If the blank is held too far back, the blank sensing proximity switch may
think the blank is held in the Blank Sorting Device and reject it.
Turn the Stop
Cylinder body until the front edge of the hold-down piece is contacting
the rimmed edge of the blank. When in the proper position, you can pull the
feeler gage out with slight resistance.
If the blanks are bad or dirty, the clearance can be increased. The 0.30 mm
clearance is the minimum allowed. The maximum clearance is one-half the thickness
of the blank.
