This procedure explains how to replace the Heating Cell thermocouples. The furnace must be shut down and cold in order to perform this procedure.

Materials Needed:
3 Heating Cell Thermocouples.
3 Neoprene Rings for the MPG Bushings.
1 Centering Ring with Neoprene Seal.
1 Guide Tube – Pythagoras
1 Guide Tube – Alum
1 Guide Tube – Ceramic

PROCEDURE:

  1. Unplug the thermocouple electrical connections.
  2. Undo the clamp holding the thermocouple assembly in position.
  3. Carefully pull out the entire assembly.
  4. Next, remove Alum Guide Tube and check its condition. Replace the Guide Tube if necessary.
  5. Remove the Ceramic Guide Tube and check its condition. Replace the Guide Tube if necessary.
  6. Remove the Pythagoras Guide Tube and check its condition. Replace the Guide Tube if necessary.
  7. Unscrew the 3 MPG bushings.
  8. Change out the 3 thermocouples with new ones.
  9. Replace the 3 MPG bushing neoprene rings and then screw the 3 MPG bushings back on.
  10. Slightly bend the thermocouples so they can be inserted into the Guide Tube.

When positioned correctly, the end of the thermocouples will extend 1/2" to 3/4" from the end of the Ceramic Guide Tube.
  11. Replace the Thermocouple assembly neoprene ring.
  12. Inspect the Thermocouple assembly sealing ring to make sure it is in good shape.
  13. Replace the 3 guide tubes over Thermocouple assembly.
  14. Insert the Thermocouple assembly into the Cell, place the clamp around the assembly and tighten.
  15. Reconnect the thermocouple electrical connections.
