How to Check Oil Volume Out of an SDRUM Regulator Valve

Regulator Valves are set at the factory and under normal conditions should never need adjusting. However, if you are experiencing lubrication problems, the first step must be to make sure the correct volume of oil is flowing to the lube blocks. You will need two people and the following tools to perform this procedure:

Tools Needed:
Metric Allen Wrench Set
Adjustable Wrench
Clock with second hand or a stopwatch
Clean one gallon container
Graduated Container (graduated in ML, with capacity of at least 1000 ML)

PROCEDURE:
  1. If the press is running, push the Clutch Off pushbutton to stop it.
  2. Next, push the Machine Off pushbutton. This shuts off the main motor and the lubrication pump.
  3. Disconnect the hose or pipe exiting the Regulator Valve you want to check.

Do NOT disconnect the hose at the Regulator Valve. Disconnect the opposite end.
  4. Place the end of the hose into the clean container and and have the helper start the lubrication pump by pushing the Machine On pushbutton.
  5. Allow the oil to flow into the container for a couple minutes. This insures the lubrication system is at normal operating pressure when the measurement is taken.
  6. Quickly transfer the hose into the graduated container and have the second person begin timing.
  7. Allow the oil to flow into the graduated container for 60 seconds.
  8. At the end of 60 seconds, quickly transfer the hose back into the other container.
  9. Have the helper push the Machine Off pushbutton to shut off the lubrication pump.
  10. Check the volume of oil in the graduated container.
  11. Compare this value to the one listed on the Lubrication Plan.

    1 cm3 = 1 mm
  12. If the values are not the same, you must adjust the setting on the Regulator Valve.
  13. To do this, you must first remove the adjustment screw cover on the Regulator Valve.
  14. Write down the current setting.
  15. Next, turn the 2.5mm adjustment screw to the highest setting.
  16. Dump the oil in the containers back into the oil reservoir. Place the hose back into the bucket and have the helper push the Machine On pushbutton.
  17. Let the oil flow into the container for as long as possible. This is done to flush out any contaminates that may have accumulated in the Regulator Valve.
  18. Once the Regulator Valve has been sufficiently flushed, have the helper push the Machine Off pushbutton.
  19. Turn the 2.5mm adjustment screw to the new setting. If the oil volume out of the Regulator Valve was lower than the value listed on the Lubrication Plan, set the adjustment screw to a value higher than the original setting.

If the oil volume out of the Regulator Valve was higher than the value listed on the Lubrication Plan, set the adjustment screw to a value lower than the original setting.
  20. Repeat steps 4 - 9. If the volumes are the same, replace the cap on the Regulator Valve. If the volumes are not the same, make another adjustment and repeat steps 4 - 9.
