How to Check and Adjust the Ejector

This procedure is used to check the Ejector. The Ejector pushes out the Obverse Die after a coin is struck to remove the coin from the collar.

Before performing this procedure, check the collar for wear. The face of the collar must be flush with the collar ring.

PROCEDURE:
  1. Move the Feed Assembly and Swivel Plate to the Service Position.
  2. Go to the Operator Control Panel and from the Main Menu Screen, push the F2 key to bring up the Operation Screen.
  3. Move the Feed Plate Gearbox to the SERVICE POSITION.
  4. Remove the Reverse Die.
  5. Check the Operation Screen to make sure the Ejector is clamped. If the Ejector isn't clamped, push the #3 key to clamp it.

To Clamp the Ejector with the door open:
    a)
Push the #3 key. The red hand icon appears to the right of "Ejector Clamped".
    b)
Then turn and hold the APPROVAL switch and at the same time, push the PRESELECTED MOTION START pushbutton. You will hear the Ejector Clamp and the Ejector Clamped indicator light will turn green.
  6. If the sliding door is not open, push the DOORS UNLOCK pushbutton and open it.
  7. Then, push the DOORS LOCK pushbutton. The DOORS LOCK pushbutton must be pushed even if the sliding door is open.
  8. Turn the Mode Selector Switch to the SET-UP SLOW SPEED position.
  9. Next, push the two CLUTCH ON pushbuttons located inside the press and inch the press to "0" degrees. At this point the Obverse Die is fully extended.

NEVER adjust the Ejector without the lube pump running (MACHINE ON pushbutton illuminated). When the lube pump is off, the knuckle assembly can settle as much as 0.4 to 0.5 mm, which will effect the Ejector setting.
  10. Place a straight edge across the face of the collar and the Obverse Die. Check the clearance with a 0.02 mm feeler gage. You should be able to pull the feeler gage out from under the straight edge with just slight resistance and no wobble. If not, you will have to adjust the Ejector position.
  11. If the Ejector position must be adjusted, loosen the spanner nut on the Ejector adjustment mechanism.
  12. Then, turn the adjustment nut to change the Ejector position. To move the Ejector "out" (moves Obverse die closer to collar face), turn the adjustment nut clockwise. To move the Ejector "in" (moves Obverse Die away from collar face), turn the adjustment nut counterclockwise.
  13. After making the adjustment, check the Ejector position again with the feeler gage and straight edge.
  14. Once the Ejector position is set, tighten the spanner nut. Never use excessive force (i.e. hitting wrench with hammer or using handle extension on wrench) when tightening the spanner nut.
  15. Check the Ejector position again. Over-tightening the spanner nut may change the setting. If the Ejector position changed, you will have to repeat steps 8 to 14.
