How to Perform a Paper Check (Check Reverse Die Centering)

This procedure is used to perform a Paper Check. The Paper Check is used to check the centering of the Reverse Die.

PROCEDURE:
  1. Shutdown down the press as if you would for a die change.
  2. Clamp the Ejector.
  3. Inch the press until the dies are nearly together, fold a piece of paper in half and hold it between the two dies. The paper must be folded in half to prevent the paper from falling out from once it is placed between the dies.
  4. Push the two CLUTCH ON pushbuttons inside the press to inch the press until the Reverse Die goes into the paper and then retracts.
  5. Remove the paper and check the impression made. There should be no rips around the perimeter of the impression. Rips indicate a "too tight" condition in that area. Occasionally, when a new set of dies are installed, the entire impression will be ripped. This is an acceptable condition due to the sharp edges on the new dies.
  6. To correct a "too tight" condition, you must adjust the Reverse Die centering.
  7. To adjust the centering, loosen and tighten the 4 center adjustment screws.

To move the die up, loosen the 2 top screws and tighten the 2 bottom screws. To move the die diagonally, loosen one of the corner screws and tighten the other.
  8. Perform another paper test to see if the die is centered. If it's OK, check the position of the Coin Ejector Pin.
  9. Restart the press.
